"Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

I cannot tell you how INCREDIBLE the show was on Saturday night. You and the other musicians on stage had me (and everyone completely transfixed, riveted, on the edge of our seats… the variety of music, the passion with which it was played and shared with the audience, the connection that we as an audience felt to the music… it was mesmerizing and unforgettable. THANK YOU for sharing such an impressive and memorable evening with all of us. We all left feeling uplifted, revived and inspired. Please share my congratulations with the other performers and let them know how privileged we feel here at the Warner to have been able to help host something so wonderful. I also want to thank you so very much for the generous donation of the high-quality T.H.E. Audio (www.theaudio.com) microphone to the Warner Theatre Center for Arts Education. It will be of great use for a wide spectrum of educational events. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity.

Again, BRAVO for launching an amazing and successful event. "

About The Ten-String Guitar

The construction of guitars with more than six strings is not a new idea. From the lutes of the Renaissance and Baroque eras, to the Romantic guitars of the European 19th century, until the present, virtuosi and composers for these instruments have all been an important part of the evolution of the multi-stringed guitar. Implementation of the modern ten-string is credited to the internationally acclaimed Spanish classical guitarist, Maestro Narciso Yepes. (1927-1997). Maestro Yepes collaborated with the Spanish luthier, Jose Ramirez, for the construction of the first contemporary classical guitar adding four extra bass strings. It was premiered in 1964 with the Berlin Philharmonic with Narciso Yepes performing the Concerto de Aranjuez. Today, there are many luthiers who construct multi-string guitars worldwide. Narciso Yepes' technical innovations and development of repertoire for this instrument has propelled this instrument into the 21st Century.

Why ten strings?

1. Adding four extra bass strings provides sympathetic resonance for each note completing the overtone series and therefore makes the guitar a more physically complete instrument.

2. Lute music of the Renaissance and Baroque eras composed on 14 strings or more can be transcribed and played as originally intended by the composer i.e. the lute music of J.S. Bach.

3. The ten string provides greater sustain for more sound projection and control similar to the sustain and damping techniques that pianist use for interpretation.

4. The expanded tonalities of four extra bass strings provides the player and composer with inventive musical and technical possibilities.

5. All six string guitar repertoire can be played within a ten string guitar as well as giving the player a wider scope of mechanical choices.

6. The ten string guitar provides the player with greater possibilities for improvisation.
